Codex Méndez: The Prints of Leopoldo Méndez

Jules Heller, Codex Mendez edition

Codex Méndez: The Prints of Leopoldo Méndez (1902-1969)  (Tempe: Arizona State University Art Museum, 1999).  At the time this exhibition catalog was the only substantial publication in English devoted to this celebrated Mexican artist, known as “the Goya of Mexico”. Heller’s survey of Méndez’s life and work is informed by the author’s experience as a guest artist in 1947 at the groundbreaking Taller de Gráfica Popular [People’s Graphic-Arts Studio] in Mexico City, which Méndez founded and directed.
